Beneath the Streets of Ancient Rome

Lecture no. 1 from the course: Plus Pilots: Beneath the Streets of Ancient Rome

Beneath the Streets of Ancient Rome

| 22 min | Categories: The Great Courses Plus Online History Courses

Join an archaeologist, Professor Darius Arya, to uncover some truly hidden gems of ancient Rome with two exceptional sites that were intentionally created underground in Antiquity for specific purposes: the subterranean basilica at Porta Maggiore and the Domus Transitoria of Nero on the Palatine Hill. Both are still little-known to the public at large, but they preserve a unique and fascinating window into life in early imperial Rome.

This is a course that needs extensive computer graphics of how the structures and surrounding areas would have looked and then the photos of today. Each site should be a separate lecture with information on how they were used and by whom.

Good presentation. However, I agree with many others who state that he would have to add much more photos, graphs, maps and other helps. This seems to be a visual course with very few visuals. I would be very interested to take this survey if those things were added. Prof. Arya is an excellent presenter for this survey, if other matters, as stated above, could be addressed.
