An antidote to "The Human Predicament" ala David Banatar's book of the same title and others like it (Schopenhauer's bio by Will & Ariel Durant's was illuminating on this... pessimism sells, so does resilience. Read Stephen Mitchell's translation of the Tao Te Ching and other similar stuff here on the Great Courses plus.
