Gnosticism’s Ritual Pathway to God

Lecture no. 7 from the course: Gnosticism: From Nag Hammadi to the Gospel of Judas

Gnosticism’s Ritual Pathway to God

Taught by Professor David Brakke | 33 min | Categories: The Great Courses Plus Online Philosophy & Religion Courses

Here, explore Gnostic conceptions regarding direct knowledge of God. First, learn about ritual baptism and hymn singing in Gnosticism, and their promise of gnosis. Then study texts that illustrate two ways of knowing God; one, a journey upward through the cosmic heavens, the other through interior contemplation of one’s own intellect.

Easy to follow, scaffolded elegantly, delivered with ease. I can't imagine a better effort for this complex topic. I've read much on the topic and this series pulls a lot of the concepts together i ways I had never realized.
