Behind the Lines—Politics and Economies
Lecture no. 43 from the course: A History of the United States, 2nd Edition

Taught by Professor Gary W. Gallagher and 2 others | 30 min | Categories: The Great Courses Plus Online History Courses
This lecture compares politics and economics in the United States and the Confederacy. Almost all military campaigning occurred in the Confederacy, dealing severe blows to industrial and agricultural production and material hardships to its population. The North proved able to produce guns and butter, and the Republican-dominated Congress passed legislation designed to make the nation a great industrial and commercial power.
