There are assignments to help you learn the material and you can purchase a word for word guide to follow along and take with you in the field.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Good Perspectives I enjoyed the courses. The format and variety allowed for ease of used and retaining interest. As an advanced amateur/ semi professional I enjoyed learning how the master’s develop a body of work. Most instructors provided clear explanations of how the photographs were created. A couple of the instructors seemed to present their personal political or moral agenda more so than the technical methods or process used in creating the photo. Certainly photography is a political and moral tool in society but the focus of instruction should be on the photographic process not the specific instructor’s agenda. These are clearly all talented and very experienced, excellent photographers. They are not all the best instructors. One in particular seemed to present her material in a very remedial style. She seemed to be talking as though she was speaking to children. I know this is a somewhat critical review but overall I enjoyed the course and I’ve benefited from the instruction. It is well worth the price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from masters of photography there was an offer i saw on fb for this product and i bought it straight away as it was a greatly discounted offer and I am into photography as a hobby. there are a lot of teachings from these 12 great NG photographers on how they got their great photos, on what sort of ground work needs to be handled before their got their memorable shots - good learning. Great value obtained from this product. no technical training here so if you are looking for more technical training, this is not for you. however after going through this product, there was another product on special offer - Fundamentals of photography - I bought this too. Now I have been involved in photography as a hobby since in my teens so I know quite a lot of stuff about aperture, shutter speed, flash, lenses but this course is so detailed taught by Joel it blows my mind! fantastic teaching and details Joel provided in this training on photography based on his personal experience - I truly loved it! I strongly recommend anyone who wants to learn much more details into the technical aspect of photography to buy this course ! Thank you Joel for the great training - I am only onto chapter 8 and already learned so much more!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from What This Is, and What It Isn't “Masters of Photography” is much more a philosophical course than a technical one. In terms of my own needs and expectations, it is a satisfying course and a fine complement to the “how to” courses “Fundamentals of Photography I” and “Fundamentals of Photography II,” which I also own and find worthwhile. The twelve presenters of this “Masters” course are all admirable artists, and I feel the life experiences they share, how they reveal particular joys of different photographic genres (landscape, wildlife, etc.), and the attitudes they recommend for before one chooses camera settings and presses a shutter button all inspire me to be a more mindful photographer. The twelve presenters are not the sort of formal lecturers one might encounter at a university. They are all still interesting and competent, though, and the course they deliver seems true to my expectations based on the course preview I watched and the overview of lecture titles that I read before ordering. My only disappointment, a fairly significant one, is that photographs are often displayed in frames set well back in the lecture studio, when zooming-in to show them close up would be far better.

This is less of an instructional video series and more of a showcase of some great photographers and their art. I expected to bo told more about the technique of capturing the images and less about their thoughts. I was looking forward to tips on the technical aspects. I also don’t think that admitting jumping fences to access closed areas or get there before the guards and crowds do is something NG should encourage.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lot of information I have made it through 12 of the 24 lessons. So far, I have found that there is a lot of information in the sessions. Each photographer presents two sessions of about 30 minutes each. Some are better than others but all are worthwhile. Since a lot of time is spent on their work and the how and why they do things, some of the points are not explicit like in an academic presentation, but you get a lot of insight into the process and how you can apply it to your photography. It is not really for the beginner. It is more for the experienced photographer that wants to elevate their game.

The course is well structured and the teachers are able to transmit not only the technical notions you need to improve but also (and above all) their passion and everything that goes beyond the technical aspects. All those crucial elements (pathos, storytelling, emotion, message...) that make the difference from "taking" a picture and "making" a good photo, by transmitting a message, an emotion, etc. All this with the quality of National Geographic. Do you really need more?

There was no warning about this, and in Udemy´s course the titles of the videos are different, so I had no idea. To be honest, I feel a little bit cheated and think about asking for a refund.

The overall takeaway for mortals who will never find themselves in these exotic places and situations is that you have to go beyond your own expectations to put really good images in the can. Go early. Stay late. Be willing to be uncomfortable. Don’t stop with the first good frame.

I found the course easy to understand, the individual video lessons are not too long, informative and give simple step by step information on how to take great pictures. The instructure Jim, has an easy going manner and gets over the information in an intuitive and easy to understand manner which makes learning fun and gives a cant wait feeling for the next lesson tomorrow. If you are serious about improving your photographic skills then I would definitely recommend this course.

Michael Yamashita is a 30-year award-winning veteran of National Geographic and has photographed a vast range of topics and locations, most notably in Asia. A major force at National Geographic and in mainstream photography for 50 years, William Albert Allard has contributed to the Society's magazine stories and books as a photographer and writer since 1964. He studied at the Minneapolis School of Fine Arts (now the Minneapolis College of Art and Design) and the University of Minnesota. Mr. Allard is the author of six highly acclaimed books, including the award-winning Vanishing Breed: Photographs of the Cowboy and the West. His latest book, William Albert Allard: Five Decades, a retrospective and memoir, explores his long career in both words and pictures.
