There is SO MUCH MORE to the history of the American South than Civil War generals and battles, and Dr. Ayers provides it. This course is a diverse and honest look at the WHOLE history of the South and ALL of its peoples, especially its disproportionate influence on the development of the United States (and the concepts of "Americans" and "Patriots" still taken for granted today.) We find ourselves hitting the pause button several times per lecture to discuss a point, and draw correlations to what is happening in contemporary times. And his lecture style is so personable it's like being right in the classroom. I would rank this the #1 Great Course! I highly recommend this course to anyone willing to leave their comfort zone, and challenge romanticized stereotypes about the South.
