Enjoyable 12 hour course. Professor Allitt may feel a bit to the right of many historians nowadays but there's not much to complain about here. Just lots good old fashioned history of our country. I think he does a reasonably good job of underlining the brutality and illegality of settlement and the necessity of conservation. At the same time he's willing to give a favorable nod to the hard work and perseverance of less fashionable groups such as Mormons. The descriptions of sod houses particularly interesting. He doesn't browbeat and his sense of humor is engaging. Fun course.

Interesting and informative history of the American west, as told with a British accent.
