Professor Muesse clearly presented an interesting, if academic, picture of Hinduism. I already knew much of the material but still have a profound sense of my ignorance. As he said in the final lecture the course could have been 40 lectures of 50 minutes each rather than 12 lectures of 30 minutes. I wanted to know what pleases Saraswati, to whom I am drawn, and what makes Shiva so tired that he stops dancing? Why is the cycle of destruction and rebirth necessary? Why is the world glorious? You know, all the questions philosophers and theologians are supposed to know.
