Learned Lots of Techniques, great instructor
I took this class and learned many different drawing techniques & use of different pencils/pastels and paper. I was really excited with the drawings I was able to produced following her step by step instructions & which I was able to apply to her additional reference photos. I sped by the video in places where she was just drawing but it was helpful to watch her pencil strokes and blending as she went along.

Good information, but frustrating
I have watched most of the course, but I'm not sure I will finish. The problem is, I was trying to follow along with the class, drawing what she was drawing at the same time. I was working from the course material reference photos, which are also shown on screen. But what I drew was not matching what she was drawing. I figured out that the reference drawing was NOT the same angle/perspective she was drawing from, because she was drawing it live. So there was no way our drawings would match.
She never mentions this during the course. She does explain what she is doing, and how and why she is doing it. But I was getting pretty frustrated until I figured it out. Since her drawing was so different from the reference photo, I was starting to wonder if she was just not very good at drawing.

Really breaks down drawing to its essentials. I recommend watching it at 2x the speed if you're a little impatient.

Patricia Watwood is an American figurative painter. She earned her MFA from the New York Academy of Art, where she later went on to teach, in addition to teaching workshops across the country. Her work has been exhibited at galleries worldwide and was included in the historic presentation of Contemporary American Realism in museums throughout China. Patricia's paintings focus on mythology, allegory and contemporary human life, and have twice graced the cover of American Artist magazine.

Meet Patricia, your expert guide to drawing, and begin by going over everything you'll need for your first drawing project: a leaf. Start with a block-in, which will serve as the foundation for each of your projects, as you learn to map out lines and angles using techniques such as enveloping and subdividing.

Continue blocking-in your leaf by creating clean, linear contour lines on top of it. Work your way around the shape as you connect the points in between; you'll see how the block-in acts as a roadmap for the contour. Also, find out how to render realistic shapes.

Complete your leaf by cleaning up the contours and adding graphic details. Learn how to use hatching and shading techniques to make your drawing more dimensional. Understand the difference between soft and hard edges, and how line quality affects the appearance of objects in space.
